At Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region, our LASIK surgeons, Dr. Allen Zieker performs LASIK with CustomVue at the Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center in Latham, New York. The Advanced CustomVue™ laser vision correction procedure can improve your nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism and help you achieve a new level of vision.
The LASIK procedure usually takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. During that time our LASIK surgeon reshapes the cornea, the front part of the eye that helps focus light on the retina. To correct nearsightedness, the cornea is flattened; for farsightedness the cornea is steepened. To correct astigmatism, we use the laser to correct the irregular shape of the cornea.
LASIK Consultation – During a consultation, Dr. Allen Zieker will determine if you are a suitable candidate for LASIK. If so, he will design a customized LASIK treatment plan for your vision and lifestyle needs.
HOW IS LASIK CUSTOMVUE™ PERFORMED?
CustomVue® LASIK is a “specialized treatment” using the most advanced technology in the laser eye surgery industry. It allows our LASIK surgeon at Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region to take laser vision correction to an entirely new and personalized level.
Step 1: Customized Measurements
LASIK CustomVue addresses the uniqueness of your eyes: individual curvature of your cornea and microscopic nuances of your anatomy. Wavescan 3D mapping creates a blueprint of your eye and Iris Registration™ reads the exact characteristics of your iris to accurately align the Wavefront treatment.
Step 2: Microkeratome Flap Created
During the procedure, Dr. Allen Zieker will use a very sophisticated tool called a microkeratome to create a precise corneal flap. This flap is moved to the side and will allow access to the underlying corneal tissue. The microkeratome has a long track record of safety and consistency and is preferred for accuracy and fewer risks of side effects.
Step 3: CustomVue
This advanced customized LASIK technology provides the most precise, accurate form of laser vision correction available today. 3D eye tracking ensures that even if your eye moves during the procedure, your treatment remains exact and specific to your customized LASIK procedure.
CustomVue produces extremely precise and accurate results that are superior to conventional LASIK for crisper and clearer vision. Additionally, the CustomVue procedure is designed to reduce night vision issues.
Recovery – Your LASIK surgeon will carefully reposition the corneal flap back into its original position. The flap will naturally adhere and contour to the eye. You will be given protective eyewear that will help discourage you from rubbing your eyes. The corneal flap will heal within several hours following the surgery. During this phase, it is not uncommon to feel slight discomfort or irritation, but these symptoms typically diminish quickly.
Results – While it can take a few weeks for you to experience the full impact of the laser correction surgery, many patients see dramatic improvement in their vision the morning following surgery, and can be back to work within two to three days. While it is recommended that you avoid strenuous activities during the weeks following your surgery, you will find that you will quickly be back to your normal routine.
