Brian R. Harrow, M.D.

Dr. Brian Harrow is a board-certified, comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon.  Dr. Harrow also treats patients with glaucoma, dry eye, diabetes, macular degeneration, and other ophthalmic conditions.

Dr. Harrow is passionate about cataract surgery.  He calls it “The Miracle Surgery.” He explains, “It is miraculous that doctors ever figured out how to work in such a small, delicate part of the body; it’s miraculous that cataract surgery has such a high success rate; and it’s miraculous to see the difference and the joy that cataract surgery brings to so many people.  It is one of the most amazing medical interventions ever created.”

EDUCATION

Dr. Harrow received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He then completed his internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. 

He has undergone additional post-graduate training at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Chennai, India, as well as at the Acuity Eye Group, in Los Angeles, CA. 

Prior to his medical career, Dr. Harrow graduated with distinction from Stanford University, graduated with honors from Harvard Law School, and worked as an intellectual property attorney for several years.

Before joining Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region Dr. Harrow treated patients at Acuity Eye Group, Los Angeles, CA, Alamance Eye Center, Burlington, NC, and the University of Rochester Medical Center (Flaum Eye Institute), Rochester, NY. 

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Harrow is a board-certified ophthalmologist, and a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. A highlight of Dr. Harrow’s ophthalmology career was traveling to India to perform cataract surgery on underprivileged patients otherwise unable to afford surgery.
