Cataract Treatment
MAKE SURE YOU’RE MAKING ALL THE RIGHT CHOICES FOR YOUR CATARACT TREATMENT.
There’s more to having cataract surgery than just getting rid of cataracts.
Equally important is the goal of maximizing the quality of your vision. With cataract surgery, making sure you make the right choice for your vision and lifestyle includes understanding ALL your options for FDA approved intraocular lenses (IOLs) both ‘fixed’ and ‘adjustable’ :
- Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) NEW!
- Monofocal
- Multi-focal
- Accommodating
- Toric
- TECNIS Symfony
New Light Adjustable Lens
The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that can be customized after cataract surgery. The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that can be adjusted in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. This optimization is done by your eye doctor in the weeks following lens implantation through a series of non-invasive light treatments that take only a few minutes each. You will have the unique ability to adjust and preview your vision until it meets your personal desires and lifestyle requirements. The Light
Adjustable Lenses deliver superior vision outcomes that non-adjustable or ‘fixed’ IOLs cannot match.

With ‘fixed’ lenses you now have many options to see at both near and far distances after cataract surgery. Individuals suffering from cataracts used to only have a ‘fixed’ monofocal lens implant option after surgery. With multi-focal, accommodating TECHNIS Symfony IOL technology you can now see both near and far, helping to decrease dependence on glasses after surgery.
Toric IOL for Patients with Astigmatism
Allen W. Zieker, M.D. was chosen to be the first cataract surgeon in the United States to implant the new Bausch + Lomb enVista® toric MX60T intraocular lens. Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company, announced they received approval July 30, 2018, from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the enVista toric MX60T, the company’s first hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) for astigmatism correction. Dr. Allen W. Zieker performed cataract surgery and implanted the enVista toric MX60T IOL in four patients on July 31, 2018.
The enVista toric MX60T IOL provides superb rotation stability for cataract patients needing astigmatism correction. “enVista’s new technology comes with proven clinical results,” explained Dr. Allen W. Zieker. “I’m honored to be the first cataract surgeon in the United States to implant the enVista toric MX60T and excited to offer it to my astigmatic cataract patients.”
