Schenectady, New York—October 27, 2019

Dr. Allen Zieker of Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region has been awarded the title of Best Ophthalmologist by Schenectady’s The Daily Gazette 2019 Best of the Best People’s Choice Awards.

The awards recognize people, places, and businesses in the Capital Region that locals consider to be the very best in the community.

Dr. Allen Zieker has been a member of the Capital Region community for decades, earning his medical degree at the Albany Medical College of Union University and then completed an ophthalmology residency at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in 1981.

Since then, Dr. Allen Zieker has been a trusted ophthalmologist in the community for more than 33 years, as a partner of the former Troy Eye Associates and a founding member of Albany-Troy Cataract and Laser Associates. Expansion into communities surrounding Albany and Troy led to the renaming of the practice to Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region.

Dr. Allen Zieker is president of the practice and director of cataract surgery. He performs more than 1,500 cataract surgeries annually and over the course of his career has completed well over 7,000 laser procedures and several thousand astigmatic surgeries.

Dr. Allen Zieker is at the forefront of cataract surgery, seeking out the latest advancements in technology and treatment options as they become available. In 2018 he was the first cataract surgeon in the United States to implant the enVista toric MX60T IOL. In September 2019, he was the first surgeon in New York and New England, and one of the first in the United States, to implant the AcrySof^® IQ PanOptix^® Trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) in a cataract patient.

Nominations for the People’s Choice Awards began in July 2019 and voting was open from August 24 through September.
