Nalini Madiwale, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. With more than 26 years in ophthalmology, Dr. Madiwale specializes in glaucoma cases, comprehensive ophthalmology, secondary and tertiary glaucoma care and specialty surgeries. Dr. Nalini Madiwale has been practicing and teaching medicine in the United States since the 1980s. She shared her expertise in surgeries for glaucoma and other diseases of the eye in Massachusetts and Rochester, New York before joining Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region in 1999.
Alongside her medical practice, Dr. Nalini Madiwale has had the honor of serving on the faculty of two of the world’s most prestigious medical schools: Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts and at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, New York. She ran a satellite clinic in Chelsea for Massachusetts General Hospital on the behalf of Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary as well as taught as the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.
After graduating with a medical degree from Karnatak Medical College at Karnatak University in Hubli, India, Dr. Nalini Madiwale completed her ophthalmology residency at Harlem Hospital Center, Columbia University, New York. She was fellowship trained in Glaucoma and in Ocular Allery. Her Glaucoma Fellowship was completed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts and her Ocular Allery Fellowship was completed at the Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Nalini Madiwale completed an Internship in Pediatrics at Harlem Hospital Center, Columbia University, New York.
Dr. Nalini Madiwale has been published in Advances in Immunology and Immunopathology of the Eyes, the Archives of Ophthalmology and was asked to write a chapter in two editions of the D.M. Albert, F.A. Jakobiec and W.B. Saunders’ reference system, “Principles and Practice of Ophthalmology”. She has conducted research as a Principle Investigator on Double Masked Safety Study of Hypotears for the Andover Eye Associates in Andover, Massachusetts. She was also a Co-Investigator on Diclofenac Sodium Vs. Inflamase Forte at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Nalini Madiwale’s current interests include the development of a low-tech teaching model for Capsulorhexis and modifications to trabeculectomy to reduce complications.
Her interest in music is just a strong as her interest in medicine. Describing herself as a student, performer, and promoter of North Indian Classical music, Dr. Nalini Madiwale brings together artist and community for lectures, demonstrations, and music recordings by way of Indo-Classical Concepts, her nonprofit organization. Be sure to ask her about the CD of classical Urdu poetry she recorded in 2008, too.
