Dr. Sax served as a partner and director of retina services at Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region since 1989. Through the years, Dr. Sax treated thousands of patients with retinal disease and sought out the latest in medical and surgical treatment options for conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein disease.
After practicing as an ophthalmologist and retinal specialist for nearly 40 years, Dr. Sax is now retired. While Ophthalmic Consultants is no longer taking appointments for Dr. Sax, he will be working in an occasional capacity, when one of our doctors is out of the office. He will also remain available to the Practice as an advisor.
Dr. Sax has identified specific doctors at Ophthalmic Consultants to take over the eye health management of his patients. He has chosen these doctors to assure his patients receive the quality of care they are used to and deserve.

Dr. Sax received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Union College, a Ph.D. in pharmacology at the University of Virginia, and his M.D. at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He then completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal diseases in New York City at the Mount Sinai and Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Sax is the recipient of several research fellowships and is a member of numerous professional societies, such as the Albany County Medical Society, the New York Ophthalmological Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and he is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
